IVF cost in India: what you actually pay per cycle

One standard IVF cycle in India usually costs ₹1,60,000 – ₹3,56,000. This covers tests, stimulation medicines, egg collection, lab work and a fresh embryo transfer. Extras such as ICSI, embryo freezing or genetic testing are added only when your case needs them.

The short answer: one cycle, one range

A single IVF cycle in India usually costs ₹1,60,000 – ₹3,56,000. That figure is for one complete cycle with a fresh embryo transfer. It is not a package for unlimited attempts.

The range is wide for a reason. Your medicine dose, the lab steps you need and the number of embryos all change the bill. Two couples at the same clinic can pay quite different amounts.

What one IVF cycle includes

A standard cycle is made of six parts. Each part has its own cost band, and the total is simply these lines added together.

What it coversCost
Consultation and diagnosisDoctor visits before treatment₹1,000 – ₹5,000
Pre-IVF testsHormones, AMH, infection screening, semen analysis₹7,000 – ₹18,000
Stimulation medicinesDepends on age, AMH and body weight₹25,000 – ₹60,000
Sperm preparationWashing and selecting sperm in the lab₹2,000 – ₹8,000
Anaesthesia for egg collectionShort anaesthesia, same-day discharge₹5,000 – ₹15,000
IVF procedureEgg collection, fertilisation, embryo culture and fresh transfer₹1,20,000 – ₹2,50,000
Total per cycle₹1,60,000 – ₹3,56,000

Figures as of 27 October 2026. Your exact cost is given in writing after your consultation and tests.

The biggest single line is the IVF procedure itself. It covers egg collection, fertilisation in the lab, growing the embryos and placing one back in the uterus. Stimulation medicines are usually the second largest line.

Why medicine costs vary so much

Medicines are the line most likely to move. The dose is set for each woman, not taken from a fixed chart.

  • Age: older women often need higher doses to grow enough follicles.
  • Egg reserve (AMH): a lower reserve can mean a stronger protocol.
  • Body weight: doses are partly based on weight.
  • Response during the cycle: the doctor may adjust the dose after scans.

Because of this, a fair estimate gives a medicine range, not one fixed number. Ask how the clinic will tell you if the dose has to go up.

Extras that can raise the bill

Many couples need one or two add-ons. These are not hidden charges if they are explained before treatment starts.

  • ICSI: used when sperm count or movement is low, or fertilisation failed before. See our ICSI cost guide.
  • Embryo freezing: when good extra embryos are left after the transfer.
  • Storage: a yearly charge after the first year, currently ₹5,000 – ₹15,000.
  • Frozen embryo transfer: a later transfer using a frozen embryo, usually ₹40,000 – ₹80,000.
  • Genetic testing (PGT): only when medically advised, usually ₹75,000 – ₹3,00,000.

Not every couple needs these. Your doctor decides after looking at your reports and the first scans.

What is usually not in the cycle price

Some costs sit outside the clinic bill. Plan for them early so the total does not surprise you.

  • Travel and stay in Delhi for the scan days, egg collection and transfer.
  • Tests repeated because older reports have expired.
  • Treatment of a uterine or tubal problem found before IVF, such as a hysteroscopy.
  • Medicines after the transfer, which some estimates list separately.

Many early tests can be done in your own city. The reports can then be reviewed on WhatsApp before you travel.

How to read a clinic estimate

A good estimate is written and itemised. It should show each line, not just one total.

  1. Check the base linesMake sure tests, medicines, anaesthesia, lab work and transfer are all listed.
  2. Find the add-onsSee which extras are planned for you and why.
  3. Ask about medicine changesAsk what happens to the cost if your dose increases.
  4. Ask about freezingAsk whether freezing and the first year of storage are included.
  5. Ask about a second transferAsk what a frozen transfer will cost if the first one does not work.

Our clinic gives a written itemised estimate before treatment begins. You can compare it line by line with any other quote.

Why a low quote can cost more

A low headline price may leave out medicines, ICSI or freezing. Once those are added, the final bill can be higher than a clearer quote.

Compare the total for the same set of steps. Also compare what happens if you need a second attempt.

Cost by city

Couples often ask whether IVF is cheaper in their own city. Prices differ between centres more than between cities.

If you live outside Delhi, travel and stay are the main extra costs. See the IVF cost guide for Patna or the full IVF cost in India page for the complete breakdown.

Planning for more than one cycle

Some couples conceive in the first cycle and some need more. Chances depend mainly on age, egg reserve, sperm quality and embryo quality.

If extra embryos are frozen, a second attempt may only need a frozen transfer. That usually costs much less than a full new cycle. Your doctor can explain realistic chances after your tests.

Paying in stages

IVF costs are not usually paid all at once. Payments tend to follow the stages of treatment.

StageWhat you typically pay for
Before treatmentConsultation and pre-IVF tests
Start of stimulationMedicines, often bought in batches as the dose is confirmed
Egg collectionAnaesthesia, the IVF procedure and sperm preparation
After the lab reportAdd-ons such as ICSI, blastocyst culture or freezing, if used

Ask the clinic for this schedule in writing. Knowing when each amount falls due makes budgeting easier, especially if you are arranging a loan or family support.

Questions to ask before you pay

  • Is the medicine cost an estimate or a fixed package?
  • What is refunded if the cycle is cancelled before egg collection?
  • Are scans during stimulation included or charged per visit?
  • Is the first year of embryo storage part of the freezing charge?
  • Are GST or other taxes included in the quoted figures?

Clear answers to these five questions remove most billing surprises. Write the answers down, or ask for them on the estimate itself.

Questions on this topic

How much does one IVF cycle cost in India?

One standard IVF cycle usually costs ₹1,60,000 – ₹3,56,000. Add-ons such as ICSI, freezing or genetic testing are extra and only used when needed.

Is ICSI included in the IVF price?

Usually not. ICSI is an add-on of ₹20,000 – ₹50,000. A full IVF cycle with ICSI comes to ₹1,80,000 – ₹4,06,000.

Why do IVF medicine costs differ between couples?

The dose depends on age, egg reserve, body weight and how the ovaries respond. A higher dose means a higher medicine bill.

Does a second attempt cost the same as the first?

Not always. If embryos were frozen in the first cycle, the next attempt may be a frozen embryo transfer, usually ₹40,000 – ₹80,000.

Can I get a written estimate before starting?

Yes. We give a written, itemised estimate before treatment. It lists each step and any extras planned for your case.
