Surrogacy Centre in Ahmedabad: 2 Govt-Registered Clinics (2026 List)

When we checked the National ART & Surrogacy Registry list on 27 October 2026, it showed 2 registered surrogacy clinics with an Ahmedabad address. For a city in a state once known for surrogacy, that is a short list. Since the 2021 Act, a clinic needs its own surrogacy registration, and only altruistic surrogacy is allowed.

Two local options, or a short flight to Delhi

Dr. Sunita Singh Rathore, Gynecologist and IVF Specialist, Delhi Medical Council Reg. No. 18257.

With only two registered clinics in the city, some Ahmedabad couples want one more opinion before deciding. Our Delhi doctor can review your reports on WhatsApp, and the flight takes about 1 hour 35 minutes.

Ahmedabad's registered surrogacy clinics fit in a two-line table. One lists its address near Subhash Bridge, and the other in Satellite. Both registration numbers follow the GJ/SC pattern used for Gujarat.

The short list reflects the change in the law rather than a lack of fertility care. Many clinics in the city still offer IVF under their ART registration. Surrogacy is different: it needs a separate surrogacy clinic registration on top of the ART one.

Our table counts only clinics whose registry address names Ahmedabad. Registered clinics in other Gujarat cities appear on the registry under their own addresses, so search for Gujarat if you want the wider picture.

Couples who made the trip to Delhi

  • Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

  • Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

Why the list got shorter after 2021

Before the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, Gujarat was well known for surrogacy. The Act made paid surrogacy a criminal offence and allowed only altruistic surrogacy at registered clinics.

Each clinic then had to decide whether to apply for a surrogacy registration. Many that once offered surrogacy now provide only IVF. That is why a city with a long link to surrogacy shows just two registered names today.

A short list is not a cause for worry in itself. It simply means the registry, rather than word of mouth, should guide your choice.

Checking a clinic that says it offers surrogacy

A clinic's IVF (ART) registration does not cover surrogacy. Before you share reports or pay a deposit, run three checks:

  • Ask for the surrogacy clinic certificate, not the ART certificate.
  • Search the certificate number on the National ART & Surrogacy Registry list.
  • Confirm that the name and address on the registry match the place you visited.

A paid surrogate offer is a red flag

If anyone offers to arrange a surrogate for a fee, walk away. Paying a surrogate beyond her medical expenses, prescribed expenses and insurance is commercial surrogacy, which is a criminal offence under the 2021 Act.

What to ask before you commit

Registration is only the first filter. Put the same questions to every clinic you shortlist, local or not:

  1. Who treats usWhich doctor plans the IVF and the transfer, and will we see that doctor at each step?
  2. What the figure coversIs the surrogate's screening, embryo freezing and transfer inside the package?
  3. How many attemptsHow many embryo transfers are included? No more than three are permitted with one surrogate.
  4. Insurance and deliveryWho buys her 36-month insurance, and in which hospital will she deliver?
  5. CertificatesWho helps with the District Medical Board and appropriate authority applications?

Who can use a registered clinic today

A registered clinic can accept only intending parents who meet the Act's conditions. Knowing them before you visit saves wasted trips.

  • A legally married Indian couple, wife 23 to 50 and husband 26 to 55, with a medical need certified by a District Medical Board.
  • An Indian widow or divorcee aged 35 to 45, using her own eggs with donor sperm.

Unmarried single women, single men and foreigners are not eligible. Couples of Indian origin living abroad need a certificate of recommendation from the National Board. The eligibility rules page covers the conditions about existing children.

Ahmedabad, another Gujarat city, or Delhi

You can choose any registered surrogacy clinic in India. Your certificates still come through the medical board and appropriate authority of the state where you live or work, wherever treatment happens.

Staying in Ahmedabad keeps every visit local. Coming to Delhi adds three to four short flights, or the Rajdhani if you prefer an overnight train of 13 to 14 hours. In return you get one doctor planning the whole treatment and a written itemised estimate before you start, with routine tests done in Ahmedabad.

Weigh the full cost, not just the distance. Our Ahmedabad surrogacy cost page lists every line, and the surrogacy law guide explains what is and is not allowed.

Ahmedabad surrogacy clinic questions

How many surrogacy centres in Ahmedabad are registered?

The registry list showed 2 clinics with an Ahmedabad address when we checked on 27 October 2026. Look again on the registry before you decide, as it is updated over time.

Why did many Ahmedabad clinics stop offering surrogacy?

After the 2021 Act, surrogacy needed a separate registration and could only be altruistic. Many clinics chose to continue with IVF alone.

Someone offered to find us a paid surrogate in Gujarat. Is that legal?

No. Paying a surrogate anything beyond medical expenses, prescribed expenses and insurance is commercial surrogacy, a criminal offence anywhere in India.

Does an IVF clinic's ART registration also cover surrogacy?

No. A clinic needs ART registration for IVF and a separate surrogacy clinic registration to carry out surrogacy.

Are registered clinics in other Gujarat cities shown on this page?

No, only those with an Ahmedabad address. Search the national registry for Gujarat to see clinics in other cities of the state.

How do we pick the right clinic when Ahmedabad has only two?

Confirm the surrogacy registration first. Then compare itemised written estimates, the number of transfers included and the insurance terms, whether the clinic is local or in another city.
