If you are planning surrogacy from Kanpur on a careful budget, the useful question is not just the package price. It is the total: package, any extras your case needs, the costs the law requires, and the trains in between.
This page sets out that total in one place. The package price is the same for Kanpur couples as for couples living in Delhi. Travel is the one part you control, and Kanpur's distance works in your favour.
The Shatabdi and Vande Bharat Express cover the roughly 440 km in about five hours. That makes a morning train, a clinic visit and an evening train home possible for most appointments. Egg collection is the main exception, when one night in Delhi is sensible.
The Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021 permits only altruistic surrogacy in India. No figure on this page is a payment to the surrogate for carrying the child.
The Kanpur couple's surrogacy package, item by item
₹4–5 lakhSurrogacy treatment package
- Consultations and treatment planning
- IVF to create embryos (stimulation, egg collection, lab work)
- Embryo freezing
- Embryo transfer to the surrogate
- Surrogate medical screening
This is the base, not the final bill. The patient's condition decides the final figure, and the full amount is written down for you before treatment starts.
Lines that apply only in some cases
If you are watching every rupee, ask the doctor early which of these your reports make likely. Routine tests can be done at a lab in Kanpur and reviewed on WhatsApp, which helps answer that sooner.

| Additional embryo transfer (up to 3 attempts allowed) | ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 |

How other couples managed the journey
-
Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

A budget sheet for the whole surrogacy
Put five blocks on one page before you decide. Leave one out and the budget will fall short later.
| Block | Range | Can you reduce it? |
|---|---|---|
| Treatment package | ₹4,00,000 – ₹5,00,000 | Fixed range; final figure depends on your case |
| Tests and scans | ₹47,700 – ₹95,000 | Partly, by doing routine tests in Kanpur |
| Extra cycle or transfer, if needed | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000 / ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 | Depends on how treatment goes |
| Surrogate's pregnancy care, delivery, insurance | Shown in the legal-process table | No, the law requires them |
| Train fares and one or two nights' stay | Your own choice | Yes, this is the flexible part |
The package and legal-process lines together come to ₹13.65–20.25 lakh before travel and any extras.
Which Delhi visits work as day trips
Most do. A morning Shatabdi or Vande Bharat reaches Delhi in about five hours, leaving time for a consultation or review before an evening train back.
- First consultation: a day trip, if you bring your Kanpur test reports.
- Review visits: day trips as a rule.
- Egg collection: plan one night in Delhi, as the wife should take it easy for the remainder of that day.
- Later reviews: day trips again, or fewer visits if reports can be shared on WhatsApp.
Across the whole process, Kanpur couples usually make 3 to 5 trips.
Keeping travel spend low
Book train seats as soon as the doctor confirms a date, since last-minute fares and availability both suffer. Choose chair car over a hotel night wherever a day trip is realistic.
Do routine blood tests and semen analysis in Kanpur, and send the reports on WhatsApp. Every test done at home is one less reason to travel.
Ask the doctor which visits need both partners. If only one of you must come, that trip costs half the fare.
When the bill can rise mid-treatment
A careful budget keeps a reserve for the lines that only some couples meet. Knowing them in advance means no scramble later.
- An extra embryo transfer, if the first does not lead to pregnancy: ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000. The law caps attempts at three with one surrogate.
- A second IVF cycle, if no frozen embryos remain: ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000.
- A caesarean instead of a normal delivery: ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000.
- A twin pregnancy and delivery: ₹1,00,000 – ₹2,00,000.
Ask the doctor which of these your reports make more or less likely. Then set aside a reserve that matches.
What to carry on each Delhi trip
A wasted trip is the easiest cost to avoid. Keep one folder that travels with you every time.
Put in your latest Kanpur lab reports, earlier treatment records, a list of medicines you take, and your written estimate. Add any papers your advocate asks you to bring. With everything in hand, a review visit can finish in time for the evening train.
Low cost, but never outside the law
Low cost surrogacy is a fair goal when the saving comes from careful planning. It is not fair when it comes from paying a surrogate under the table or skipping her insurance.
Under the 2021 Act, paying for surrogacy beyond set costs is a criminal offence. The intending couple pays the surrogate's medical expenses, prescribed expenses such as loss of wages, and 36 months of insurance, and nothing else. Our surrogacy law guide covers the details.
Check eligibility before you spend anything
A free eligibility check costs less than a train ticket. The couple must be legally married and Indian, with the wife 23 to 50 and the husband 26 to 55.
A couple with a surviving child is generally not eligible. One exception exists: when that child has a mental or physical disability, or a life-threatening or incurable illness. That route needs a board certificate and the appropriate authority's approval.
The medical indication is the other half: a District Medical Board certifies it, using the conditions listed in Rule 14 of the Surrogacy Rules, 2022. See the full list on our eligibility page, and compare IVF surrogacy costs nationally on surrogacy cost in India.
