Mumbai couples rarely lack choice. The national registry lists registered surrogacy clinics right across the city, from Colaba in the south to Borivali in the north. So the harder question is not where to go, but how to compare what each quote really includes.
Delivery is where Mumbai figures often pull apart. Private maternity hospitals in the city tend to charge more for the birth and the stay. That one line can move a total more than the treatment itself.
With us, a Mumbai couple pays the same package as a Delhi couple. On top of it, plan for return flights of about 2 hours 10 minutes and a few nights in Delhi around the key steps. Blood tests and early scans can be done in Mumbai and shared with the doctor on WhatsApp, which keeps the number of trips down.
What the Mumbai surrogacy package covers
₹4–5 lakhSurrogacy treatment package
- Consultations and treatment planning
- IVF to create embryos (stimulation, egg collection, lab work)
- Embryo freezing
- Embryo transfer to the surrogate
- Surrogate medical screening
Treat this as a starting range. Your final amount depends on the wife's medical condition, egg and sperm quality and the number of transfers. You receive it in writing before anything begins.
Costs that apply only in some cases
Mumbai couples often ask about caesarean and twin delivery first, because hospital charges in the city run high. These lines, and donor gametes, are added only when your case needs them.

| Additional embryo transfer (up to 3 attempts allowed) | ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 |

| Donor sperm (when medically certified) | ₹25,000 – ₹65,000 |
| Genetic testing of embryos (PGT) | ₹20,000 – ₹50,000 |

| Tests and scans before and during treatment | ₹47,700 – ₹95,000 |
Pregnancy, insurance and legal costs on top of the package

Families who chose our Delhi clinic
-
Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

Where the baby is born changes the bill
In our own estimate, the surrogate's pregnancy care and her delivery together make up a large share of the cost outside the package. In Mumbai, private maternity hospitals tend to charge more for delivery and room stay than many other cities. Two quotes that look alike on treatment can end far apart once the birth is added.
Our estimate lists normal delivery (₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000) and caesarean delivery (₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000) as separate lines. When you compare, ask every clinic which hospital the surrogate will deliver in. Also ask whether a caesarean or a twin birth (₹1,00,000 – ₹2,00,000) is covered or charged extra.
The same questions apply if you are weighing a clinic in Navi Mumbai or Thane.
Reading a Mumbai quote beside ours
With many registered clinics in the city, you may hold two or three quotes at the same time. Line them up item by item rather than by the headline figure.
- Does the package include embryo freezing and the surrogate's medical screening?
- How many embryo transfers are covered? Up to three attempts with one surrogate are permitted.
- Is the surrogate's 36-month insurance included, and for what cover?
- Are the medical board and authority certificates, legal documents and the parentage order part of the figure?
- Who coordinates the case, and is that charged separately?
Our own figures sit in the tables above, line by line. You get the same breakdown in writing, with your name on it, before treatment starts.
IVF surrogacy: what the package pays for
Surrogacy in India always starts with IVF. Embryos are created in the lab, usually from the wife's eggs and the husband's sperm, then frozen until the surrogate is ready.
The package covers that IVF cycle, embryo freezing, the surrogate's medical screening and the transfer itself. Tests and scans before and during treatment are charged separately, at ₹47,700 – ₹95,000.
The wife's own stimulation and egg collection happen at our Delhi clinic. The surrogate's transfer is planned once the certificates are in place. Read more on our surrogacy consultation page.
What altruistic surrogacy allows you to pay
Under the Surrogacy (Regulation) Act, 2021, only altruistic surrogacy is legal in India. Commercial surrogacy is a criminal offence in Maharashtra, as in every other state.
You pay the surrogate's medical expenses and other prescribed expenses, such as loss of wages. You also buy insurance for her that covers 36 months (₹65,000 – ₹1,45,000).
Any other payment to her counts as commercial surrogacy. Our surrogacy law guide sets out the rules in more detail.
Flights, stays and what you can do from Mumbai
A Mumbai couple usually makes three to four return trips to Delhi. The flight takes about 2 hours 10 minutes, and the Rajdhani Express around 16 hours.
The first trip is the consultation. Egg collection and the embryo transfer to the surrogate are the other fixed dates, plus a review if the doctor needs one.
Blood tests and early scans can be done at a lab near your home and sent on WhatsApp. Keep flights and hotel nights as a separate budget line, since they are not part of the package.
Egg collection timing depends on how the ovaries respond, so the exact date is set only a day or two ahead. A flexible fare or a spare day in your plans helps.
Certificates for a couple living in Maharashtra
A District Medical Board issues the medical indication certificate. You approach the board in the state where you live or work, which for most Mumbai couples is Maharashtra. The essentiality certificate is issued by the appropriate authority over that board.
Both certificates stay valid for one year. Later, a Magistrate's court passes the parentage and custody order.
Your advocate files each application. The full order of steps is on our process and certificates page, and the conditions for couples are on the eligibility page.
