Kolkata couples have more local choice than most. The city has one of the largest groups of registered surrogacy clinics in eastern India, and many families are treated close to home. So why would anyone from Kolkata look at a Delhi price list?
Usually for one of two reasons. Some want a second opinion after IVF or surrogacy elsewhere has not worked. Others already hold a Kolkata quote and want to know how it measures up. This page is written for both, with every figure set out line by line so you can lay it next to a local estimate.
The legal frame is identical in West Bengal and Delhi. Only altruistic surrogacy is permitted, and the surrogate receives medical and prescribed expenses, never a fee.
Our package, ready to compare with a Kolkata quote
₹4–5 lakhSurrogacy treatment package
- Consultations and treatment planning
- IVF to create embryos (stimulation, egg collection, lab work)
- Embryo freezing
- Embryo transfer to the surrogate
- Surrogate medical screening
Treat this range as a starting point for comparison, since the final amount depends on the patient's condition. The written estimate you receive after review gives the exact figure.
Lines that appear only in some cases
When you compare with a Kolkata clinic, check whether its quote mentions these items at all. A quote that leaves them out can look lower than it really is.
| Additional IVF cycle | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
| Additional embryo transfer (up to 3 attempts allowed) | ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 |
| Donor eggs (when medically certified) | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
| Donor sperm (when medically certified) | ₹25,000 – ₹65,000 |
| Genetic testing of embryos (PGT) | ₹20,000 – ₹50,000 |
| Caesarean delivery | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
| Twin pregnancy and delivery | ₹1,00,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
| Additional legal work | ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 |
| Tests and scans before and during treatment | ₹47,700 – ₹95,000 |
Process costs that every quote should show
These are part of every legal surrogacy in India. If a quote from any city says nothing about insurance or legal work, ask where those costs have gone.
| Pregnancy care of the surrogate | ₹4,00,000 – ₹4,50,000 |
| Delivery (normal) | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000 |
| Insurance for the surrogate, 36 months | ₹65,000 – ₹1,45,000 |
| Medical board and authority certificates | ₹60,000 – ₹95,000 |
| Legal documents and parentage order | ₹1,60,000 – ₹3,20,000 |
| Case coordination | ₹1,30,000 – ₹3,15,000 |
| Package plus these costs | ₹13.65–20.25 lakh |

Surrogacy journeys from our clinic
-
Shalini and Deepak travelled from Kolkata to Delhi for treatment. One coordinator kept a single checklist for their travel, certificates, IVF and delivery, so they always knew the next step.

Gurpreet and Mandeep came to Delhi from Chandigarh. They wanted a team that understood the Surrogacy Act, and careful screening of the surrogate and a complete legal file mattered most to them.

Reading a Kolkata quote next to ours
Two quotes can look far apart and still cover the same work. Before comparing totals, line them up item by item.
| Check this in the quote | Our figure or note |
|---|---|
| Embryo transfers included | One transfer is in our package; further attempts cost ₹50,000 – ₹1,00,000 each. Indian law permits a maximum of three attempts with one surrogate. |
| Surrogate's insurance for 36 months | ₹65,000 – ₹1,45,000 |
| Surrogate's pregnancy care | ₹4,00,000 – ₹4,50,000 |
| Delivery | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,00,000 for a normal delivery |
| Legal paperwork and the parentage order | ₹1,60,000 – ₹3,20,000 |
| Tests and scans | Charged separately, ₹47,700 – ₹95,000 |
| Travel | Nothing for a Kolkata clinic; flights or Rajdhani fares for Delhi |
Whatever gap remains after this exercise is the real difference between the two offers.
When a Delhi second opinion is worth the trip
A second opinion helps most at a turning point. Examples are repeated failed embryo transfers, unclear advice on whether surrogacy is needed at all, or a suggestion of donor eggs that you want to understand better.
You do not have to fly to Delhi for this. Send your Kolkata reports on WhatsApp first, and the doctor can tell you whether a visit would add anything. Sometimes the honest answer is that your current plan is sound.
Signs that a quote needs a closer look
A surrogacy charge that seems very low is worth questioning, wherever it comes from. Watch for these points.
- No mention of the surrogate's 36-month insurance, which the law requires.
- A single lump sum with no itemised lines.
- Any payment described as a fee or reward for the surrogate. The 2021 Act treats such payments as commercial surrogacy, and that is a crime.
- Silence on who handles the medical board and appropriate authority applications.
Ask the clinic to put its answers in writing. A registered clinic should have no difficulty doing so.
Where donor eggs fit into the comparison
Some Kolkata couples arrive for a second opinion after being told to use donor eggs. Since February 2024, that is allowed in surrogacy when a District Medical Board certifies a medical need. Read our page on donor gamete rules before agreeing to it.
If donor eggs are part of either quote, make sure the other quote includes them too. Otherwise you are comparing two different treatments.
Rajdhani or flight from Kolkata
By air the journey is about 2 hours 15 minutes. The Rajdhani Express needs around 17 hours, which uses most of a day in each direction.
One practical mix is to take the train for the first consultation if you have leave to spare, and to fly for egg collection, where the date and time are fixed. A review visit can often be a flight in and a flight out the next day. Couples coming from this far usually make three to five trips in all.
Planning leave and stay for each visit
Because every Kolkata trip involves a flight or a long train journey, plan leave in blocks rather than single days.
| Visit | Who usually comes | Time to set aside |
|---|---|---|
| First consultation | Both partners | Two days, if you fly |
| Egg collection | The intending mother, with her husband joining for collection day | Several days, the most of any trip |
| Embryo transfer | Ask the doctor if you need to attend | A day either side, if you come |
| Birth and court order | Both partners | Ask your advocate in advance |
What stays the same wherever you are treated
If you live or work in West Bengal, you apply there. A District Medical Board certifies the medical need, and the appropriate authority over that board issues the essentiality certificate. Both certificates are valid for one year, and your advocate confirms the details before filing.
The steps are explained on our page about surrogacy certificates. To see which local clinics are registered, open our list of surrogacy centres in Kolkata.
