Most Kolkata couples do IVF in Kolkata, and that is often the sensible choice. The city has plenty of fertility clinics, and staying home avoids travel and time off work.
This page is for couples weighing a second option. Perhaps a cycle elsewhere did not work, or a quote seems high and you want a reference point. Our figures are itemised, so a test tube baby quote from any city can be checked against them one line at a time. The price itself does not change because you live in Kolkata.
If you do come to Delhi, the stay that matters most is around egg collection. Before that, blood tests and early scans can be done in Kolkata and reviewed on WhatsApp, which keeps your days away to a minimum.

Add-ons, and where quotes often differ
Add-ons are where IVF price comparisons usually go wrong. One quote may treat ICSI or blastocyst culture as standard, while another leaves them out and looks lower.
| Item | When it applies | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| ICSI | Low sperm count or motility, or earlier failed fertilisation | ₹20,000 – ₹50,000 |
| Blastocyst culture (day 5) | Growing embryos to day 5 before transfer | ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 |
| Embryo freezing | When extra good embryos are available | ₹15,000 – ₹40,000 |
| Embryo or egg storage, per year | After the first year of freezing | ₹5,000 – ₹15,000 |
| Frozen embryo transfer (FET) cycle | Using a frozen embryo in a later cycle | ₹40,000 – ₹80,000 |
| Assisted hatching | Some repeated-failure or frozen-embryo cases | ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 |
| Preimplantation genetic testing (PGT) | Only when medically advised | ₹75,000 – ₹3,00,000 |
| TESA / PESA (surgical sperm retrieval) | No sperm in the semen sample | ₹30,000 – ₹60,000 |
| Hysteroscopy or laparoscopy | If the uterus or tubes need treatment first | ₹40,000 – ₹1,00,000 |
| Donor egg programme | Very low AMH or repeated poor egg quality | ₹70,000 – ₹1,80,000 |
| Donor sperm | When no usable sperm is available | ₹5,000 – ₹15,000 |
IUI and egg freezing costs
IUI is timed to ovulation and can need a visit at short notice, so many Kolkata couples find a local clinic more practical for it. Egg freezing involves a single stay in Delhi, much like the collection part of IVF.
| Treatment | Includes | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| IUI, per cycle | Including washed sperm preparation | ₹10,000 – ₹25,000 |
| Egg freezing (one cycle) | Stimulation, collection and freezing; storage extra | ₹1,50,000 – ₹2,50,000 |
Is a second IVF opinion worth it?
Consider one after two or more failed transfers, after a cycle that produced very few eggs or embryos, or when you have been advised donor eggs and want to understand why. Chances rest mainly on four things: the woman's age, her egg reserve, sperm quality and embryo quality. A fresh look at those can confirm your current plan or suggest a change.
Send records of previous cycles on WhatsApp first, including medicine doses and embryo reports. Our article on options after a failed IVF cycle explains what a review usually covers.
Comparing IVF prices between Kolkata and Delhi
| Ask the Kolkata clinic | How it shows on our side |
|---|---|
| Are injections and medicines included? | Doses differ for each woman, so check how both quotes handle them |
| Is ICSI included? | A cycle with ICSI costs ₹1,80,000 – ₹4,06,000 |
| Is embryo freezing included? | Freezing is ₹15,000 – ₹40,000, with storage at ₹5,000 – ₹15,000 a year |
| What does a frozen transfer cost? | ₹40,000 – ₹80,000 per frozen embryo transfer cycle |
| What about travel? | None for a local IVF centre; flights or train fares for Delhi |
Put travel and stay on the Delhi side of the sheet before you compare totals.
Planning trips from Kolkata
A flight takes about 2 hours 15 minutes, and the Rajdhani around 17 hours. For IVF, the trip that needs careful timing is egg collection. The wife arrives for the last days of injections and stays until collection, or longer if the embryo transfer is fresh.
Where it suits the medical plan, freezing all embryos and returning for a frozen transfer splits this into two shorter stays. For the first consultation, a two-day trip by air is often enough.
ICSI, and why it changes the comparison
ICSI injects a single sperm into each mature egg. It is used mainly when sperm count or movement is low, or when eggs did not fertilise well in an earlier cycle. Read more on ICSI treatment.
Some clinics include ICSI in every cycle, while others add it only when needed. If one quote includes it and the other does not, the gap between them is mostly ICSI, not a difference in care. Ask each clinic directly which applies to you.

Checking any IVF centre, in Kolkata or Delhi
Under the ART (Regulation) Act, 2021, IVF clinics must be registered on the National Registry and renew every five years. Ask to see that registration, and ask for an itemised written estimate before you pay anything. Our list of questions to ask an IVF centre helps with the rest.
